Fujifilm Instax Link Wide Printer Review: Bigger, Better Images

I can’t lie: I am a big fan of Fujifilm Instax printers.I like Instax camera Yes, but those use cases are limited, and most of the time I don’t want to carry it with me. I prefer to shoot with a mobile phone or a mirrorless camera, and then print these images on an Instax printer.

Although I like Instax prints very much, the original format is only 1.8 inches x 2.4 inches. That’s pretty small, and it’s not Polaroid. Square Instax format film is slightly larger (2.4 inches square), but if you want Fujifilm’s largest format Instax prints (3.9 inches x 2.4 inches), you must purchase a camera.

Until now. The new Fujifilm Instax Link Wide smartphone printer brings the company’s largest instant film to a standalone printer.

Instax serves the people

My first Instax printer was a light purchase, and it has become an integral part of my interaction with people when I travel. This also stimulated my children’s interest in photography. It’s not perfect, but the magic of instant printing is that it goes beyond its limitations. They are not suitable prints for galleries, but they are really interesting.

I’m still using my old Instax SP-1 printerThe printed matter is a beautiful little gift; they are also a good icebreaker. I like to photograph people, but I am not an extrovert, so it is difficult for others to take their portraits. It is especially difficult now because everyone thinks that you want to put your image on Instagram. If you can tell someone that you are not interested in social media and immediately provide them with a printout of the image, you will usually have a completely different conversation.

Even if you don’t want to travel or photograph strangers, there is something about physical printing that can establish a greater connection between the view and the image. You cannot just scroll to the next image. Trust me: print. Along the way, you will thank yourself.

This is part of the reason why I like the new Instax Link Wide printer so much. It can make equally good Instax prints, but bigger. The 3.9 x 2.4 inch print is horizontal-the large edge of the white border is at the bottom of the long side, but if you want, nothing prevents you from printing portrait images.

Except for the size, the Instax Link Wide printer is very similar to Fujifilm’s Mini linkThis is a relatively inconspicuous gray (or white) box, about the size of three CD boxes. If you are under 30, it is 5.25 inches by 4.75 inches and the thickness is 1 inch. There is a button at the top to open it and print the last image again. On the back, you will find a USB-A port for charging (USB-C will be fine). You load the film at the bottom, close it, and then interact with it entirely through the app, which connects to the printer via Bluetooth.

Instax Wide app

New Instax Link Wide app IOS with Android It is indeed the core of the Instax Wide printer. The Fujifilm app is mixed, but Instax has been improving recently. The new Wide application is very similar in function to the Mini Link application that is compatible with the company’s latest Mini printer. However, the layout is completely different, in my opinion, it is cleaner and easier to navigate.
