Freewrite Traveller Review (2021): A friend of a distraught writer

do you have Longing for the days of manual typewriters? We are indeed. We like the disposable products here, such as A Kindle. This is an e-reader, nothing more. You cannot scroll TikTok, view work Slack, or be pinged via chat notifications. That’s why we like Freelance writing in 2016. It is a typewriter, but unlike a real typewriter, you can take it to a coffee shop and later put your page in a Google Doc.

So we decided to try Freelance writer, This is a slightly more powerful device. Unlike the original Freewrite, this version uses a hinge design for easy carrying, and has arrow keys to edit your errors. It is just a place where you can write anywhere without paying too much attention to editing. Its electronic ink screen is pleasing to the eye and will not harm your eyes.

I dream of writing a novel in a house in a seaside town in New England (I’m no Looking at you, Provincetown), I can feel all the stories bubbling in my heart. However, when you need to actually display it all on the page, it’s much easier to just check Twitter. After working on my computer for a whole day, the last thing I want to do is to stare at my computer for a few hours at night. This little traveler actually asked me to put those damn words on the page. I haven’t finished a book, but God, I started!

I said above that Freewrite products are born for writing, not for editing. It is best to let yourself enter and edit later. Older models do this by not having arrow keys at all, which is a deliberate design choice to prevent you from selecting text or reordering paragraphs, but since then Traveler has relaxed a bit.

This time, there is Yes Arrow keys, but you must use the WASD keys, plus the “new” and shift keys, to move the cursor to each character to backspace. If you want to jump between entire words, skip the shift key. This makes it possible, but it is not easy, it is intentional.

The screen size also allows you to write. When typing on my large computer monitor, I can see many of my previous paragraphs. It’s hard not to go back to edit while I’m working. On Traveler, I can only see a few lines of text at a time. When you can’t see it, you can’t focus on it. Traveler will not check spelling for you, but you can check it after sending the draft to Google Docs.
