You no longer need to spend more than $200 on a pair of high-quality Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) headphones. If you don’t mind choosing a slightly older model, we strongly recommend Sony WH-1000XM3. A few weeks after the price dropped to US$190, the price of wireless headphones was reduced by another US$20 Best Buy Set a new low of $170.
Due to its excellent sound and comfort, we gave the XM3 a score of 94 in September 2018. Inside is a dedicated noise reduction chip QN1, which plays an important role in preventing background noise and enhancing audio. For those who are not used to ANC, you may even notice new sounds in your favorite tracks. Audiophiles will also use the customization features provided by the Sony app, allowing you to fine-tune the audio.
If we don’t mention XM3’s successor, it’s our negligence XM4. Newer headphones have two main new features: automatic pause and seamless multi-device listening. When you consider that their current price is $348, this will hardly break the deal.
The design of XM3 is also very popular. The in-ear headphones are black, and the Sony logo and USB-C are in bronze port. In our tests, we found that the plush cushioning around the padding and headband is much more comfortable than some alternatives. You can also fold them up when not in use, making them ideal for travel. XM3 provides about 30 hours of battery life, more than enough for ordinary commuters. A well-powered USB-C connection can also provide 5 hours of charging time after 10 minutes.
