I was in North Carolina the other week. They have trees that look like that (maybe not quite as bad), they are spun by ragworms instead of spiders. Still, the web-like structure they weave still gives me the willies.Anyway, reminds me of John Wyndham's The Web.
Aaaaargh!
This looks like a severe infestation of tent caterpillar to me. I hate dealing with them.
